About

Jim’s journey began with teaching guitar in a small music shop in VA at age 14, then performing globally, followed by teaching film scoring, guitar, and music technology at several universities while composing emotive soundscapes for film and television.

Along the way, Jim worked with The London Symphony Orchestra , Abbey Road Studios, Hans Zimmer, Cirque du Soleil, and numerous Grammy-winning musicians… experiences where his expertise in technology and his passion for music seamlessly converged. His leadership as the COO and CEO of multiple music technology companies solidified his reputation as a driving force in an ever-evolving industry.

His work in music technology as been featured in global Apple commercials featuring the conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, in Oscar-winning films, Grammy-winning albums, Broadway productions, concert tours, and studios around the world. At one simultaneous moment, products he was involved in were used on the top 3 Billboard albums, the top movie at the box office, and the top grossing touring Broadway production.

Through this eclectic path, his technology, his music, and sound design has continued to evolve, weaving dark minimalist and ambient influences into immersive sonic landscapes. The result is a tapestry that reflects the intersection of tradition, innovation, and the sounds he loves to create.

Sound & Art

Jim’s artistic voice is rooted in the minimalism of Arvo Pärt, the profound emotional resonance of Henryk Górecki, and the evocative sonic imagination of George Crumb and Krzysztof Penderecki.  Their work shares a devotion to elemental clarity, silence, texture,  and the transformative power of sound; qualities that serve as guiding principles in his own music.

From this lineage, his compositions extend into more atmospheric and shadowed territories. Drawing on the evocative textures of Jóhann Jóhannsson, the haunting depth of Hildur Guðnadóttir, and the minimalist landscapes of Max Richter, he explores the liminal space where orchestral tradition merges with electronic sound design. Minimalist pulses, ambient dissonances, and immersive sonic layers become the canvas upon which emotion is painted.

In both his music and art this convergence of classical austerity and contemporary experimentation allows him to create works that invite listeners inward…toward reflection, memory, and the unspoken. It is a journey through light and shadow, tradition and innovation, the sacred and the experimental, always seeking to transform sound into an environment that resonates beyond the purely musical.
